Rehabilitation
and Therapy programmes assist a person diagnosed with visual impairment,
either congenital or acquired, in adapting both emotionally and physically
to the environment. Very often, individuals who have not received early
intervention and prevention programmes are advised to seek such programmes
to help them overcome their impairment. The relevant service offered is
Occupational Therapy. Therapy assists people with disabilities in areas
of development and self-help skills including mobility (gross and fine
motor skills), play and social skills, as well as reading skills. Therapists
also give advice on assistive devices and equipment to assist in maximising
independence. |
