Rehabilitation and Therapy services are provided for people with disabilities during the chronic stage of their disability. Young persons with disability who have not received early intervention services are usually referred to rehabilitation and therapy programmes to help them overcome their disability. Some hospitals provide rehabilitative care services to their patients who do not require acute medical care but who need the service to recuperate and regain their functional abilities. These services help the person with disability to maintain or improve in their functioning ability e.g. sensations felt in the limbs of a person who has acquired paralysis. The services promote the independence and participation of people with disability within the society.
